Reclaimed timber delights

Maple Slab Side Table

I love wood and was reminded of this while trying to move our very own coffee table made from a nature-got-the-better-of-me slab – it’s very heavy. Practically every door in our house is wood and I love wood bowls, chopping boards and floors. I have a very heavy Oregon wood chair that I made at art school and I was the only girl in my graduating year to have a ‘license’ to use the industrial bandsaw. I think in an alternate world I would love to have been a carpenter. What I really admire though is people who take reclaimed wood or old furniture and turn it into something special. I think it takes a great eye and not to mention skill to see the possibilities in aged and weathered wood. Here are 3 reclaimed wood treasures that I found and really wanted to share.

They are from top:

Large Reclaimed Wood Cabinet by Trueconnection. Their pieces are made to order and even though they are sanded smooth all wood is left in its raw state so the colours are mostly grey.
Reclaimed wood accent table or nightstand by Tim Sway Perspectives. The top, bottom and legs are made from shipping pallets and I love the addition of the maple drawer. The legs makes it looks like it’s going to get up and walk away.
Maple Slab Side Table by Salvage Interiors. We don’t have a lot of blond wood in Australia and I really love blond wood especially maple. I like the ruggedness of leaving the bark, maintaining the shape of the slab and exposing the knots.

  1. I so agree! These pieces are so beautiful! I especially love the first one! I’m a woodsy kinda gal! I’m not totally rustic, but I have wood pieces that other people would slap paint on faster than they could blink…but…I just can’t do it! I love the natural beauty of wood. Ironically, I was going to post {and ask your opinion} about whether or not I should paint some chairs {debating because I really don’t want to be a paint slapper…}… now I’m thinking I should just leave them be! 🙂 hmmmm….

  2. Thanks for featuring our maple slab table Libby! We linked to your post on our Facebook page.

  3. These are all great, but the first one is by far my favorite. I love aged wood and straight lines. I would love to have this one in my house.
