I have printing on the brain this week after day 2 of my screen printing workshop – I promise I’ll share the results with you soon but first I really want to share the work of Magali Dincher from Beau Est Mien.
Magali is a self-taught printmaker, teacher, and owner of the creative business Beau Est Mien, living in Perth, Western Australia. She was born in France and has been practising art full-time since 2008, shortly after her arrival in Perth.
Magali’s naïve, childlike designs are fuelled by her observations on life, combining influences from her French heritage and her new home in WA. She is inspired by the architecture and buildings of places she has visited, including Paris, New York, Venice, beach-side Perth, and soon, Buenos Aires, home to 13 million people. Employing different methods of printmaking in her art including linocut, screen printing, collagraph and etching, Magali hand-colours each piece. She experiments with a variety of mediums including paper, fabric, and stone.
As well as her artworks, Magali has just started making rubber stamp sets, so that children and adults alike can create some prints of their own. Beautiful fabric printed with Magali’s designs is now available by the metre (for tea towels, cushion covers, and the like), along with hand-screen printed wrapping paper, a colouring book, and greeting cards.
Just recently Magali has been granted the artist-in-residency program at ‘Ace in Argentina. ‘Ace, a non-profit artist-in-residence centre located in Buenos Aires, will host Magali from 24 September to 12 October 2012.
BUT – getting to and living in Argentina take finances and to support her quest to take up the artist-in-residency program Magali has setup a crowdsourcing page and anyone can donate to the project via Pozible (http://www.pozible.com/beauestmien), a funding platform for creative projects such as this one. There are great incentives for even the smallest donation and since I’m loving her Flower stamp I’m pledging my $25.
If you do make a pledge it doesn’t process until she’s reached her goal. So what do you say? Wouldn’t you love to be a patron of the arts?
