I know it’s strange to be thinking about summer since autumn has arrived and also seeing as I’m not a big fan of summer.
Before I dropped out of the class this week (the same one that had me on a treasure hunt) I had made a start on the next workshop. We had to do 30 quick drawings around the topic of summer and the first thing I did is brainstorm summer and what it meant to me. It’s amazing that the images of summer all came from my childhood and teen years. There are the usual images like thongs (and I mean the footwear variety), heat, dust, flies and BBQs but the first word that popped into my head was ‘possibility’. Do you remember the 6 weeks off school and all the possibilities that lay before you? I sure do.
Yet how do you visualise possibility? What does it look like? In all my searching I came across the gorgeous photos by Amanda Mabel and this one was as close as I could find to giving my word a look and feel. As a girl who grew up in outback NSW this reminded me of car trips as a child to our yearly beach holiday and freedom as a teen driving my Grandmother’s 1964 EH Holden. I can almost feel it.
What says summer to you? For my antipodean friends, what are you looking forward to with summer approaching? What are your possibilities?
