Did you notice? Current Observations has undergone a little facelift. It happens about once a year – the inspiration starts slowly and then bubbles along for a few weeks until I finally give in to the endless stream of ideas in my head and commit something to code.
This time around has been a little different for me – I decided to jump on board the responsive web design train and aim for a design that would work equally well on a desktop, tablet and smartphone. You really must try it – you can see it action by resizing your browser right now – pay attention to the top menu and my sidebar – go ahead I’ll wait.

So what do you think? Is it awesome or is it awesome or is it just the geek in me that thinks it’s awesome? I would love to claim credit for all this awesome but I can’t. I started with the Waipoua theme from Elmastudio, created a child theme and went from there. I redid by header graphic and even branched out into blue (shocking I know), I’ve made very naive use of post formats to change the image before each post title but I’ve just discovered a better way to achieve the same results so it’s back to code for me.
July 7th update – I changed my post title icons by making use of the post category metadata, which is a much nicer solution. If you want to know how it’s done – let me know.

Is it responsive? It’s great, love it Libby!
Hey Mel – yes it is responsive. Thanks for the thumbs up. It’s so different to my last design that I’m still getting used to it.
I’ve been hearing a lot about responsive design, but haven’t fully come on board yet myself (though I’ve been thinking a lot about redoing my own blog design lately – maybe this weekend). How are you liking it??
I did notice and it is awesome!
